This is a full on musical rather than a bio pic

Saw an advanced screening and it’s more of a musical using story relevant songs in his life story eg: singing Saturday nights alright for fighting as a child and then a big dance number with the townspeople and growing up in the song

I was not expecting it to be a musical. But I loved it!!

I hated that only 2 or 3 songs at the most where Infront of a crowd of people and the rest where used just to move the story along or in conversations

Sounds good. Glad they didn't take the regular, boring approach to a musical biopic. So tired of the same old thing. Now I am excited to see this.

Don’t expect you favourite songs with him singing to a crowed tho as the songs are used in conversations/musical numbers to move the story along mabey 2 or 3 songs are in front of a crowed of people

Honestly, doing a lip sync concert is the laziest way to do a music biopic. I'm glad to hear this.

reply

Still sounds good. I like that they are doing something different with this movie. Tired of all the biopics that use the same tired formula.

Taron Egerton did mention it in a interview with Jonathan Ross a year before the film was released that it was going to be fantasy/musical biopic based loosely on John's life.So I wasn't expecting a straight ahead biopic and that what makes the film even better for me. I think as a film it's probably better then Bohemian Rhapsody for that reason (I really liked that film) and it didn't hold back from John's drug, sex fueled pomp something that Rhapsody did especially on Mercury's sexuality.

Not being a huge fan, I didn't realize EJ had an excessively drug and sex filled youth. At this point, seriously, who hasn't? If I had more $$ than God and I was in my 20s-30s I'd probably have indulged myself too.
But right now this has a complimentary 7.7 IMDb rating, so it sounds like a fairly good movie. Maybe one day I'll see it.

I loved it and I hate musicals. I got goosebumps every time a song started. Great movie.

I'm glad that they did it as a music and not a regular type of biopic. It worked really well and I enjoyed it.
