Expectations are low, but hopes are high

I recently watched the trailer for this and thinks it looks really good. Though I’m concerned about how it’s received close to no hype. Also I’m unsure how to feel about Taron Edgerton doing all his own vocals, he sounds good from what I’ve heard but feel maybe they should have done what they did in Bohemian Rhapsody.

He doesn't really resemble Elton in my opinion but I'll check it out
May 31 or thereabouts

Look at young elton side by side with him, it might surprise you.

I think it looks good. I did always prefer Elton's earlier stuff like Tumbleweed Connection and Madman Across the Water and also one called 17-11-70 (60 years on..a great song)..After he got into pop a little too much he lost me.
But he's an immensely talented guy and I think his rise to the top could be interesting especially with Taron Edgerton actually singing ..
I'd really love a Bowie film though.

I agree a Bowie film would be great. Also waiting for one on Elvis, and one on MJ would also be good.

I think a Bowie one would be amazing, a guy who reinvented himself over the years and created great albums, had his crazy drug years, a crazy first marriage, and a great closing chapter when he was producing some of his best work in years. One of Britain's greatest artists. My worry is his son Duncan Jones, is very guarded on his dad legacy. I don't want a whitewash on his dad's biopic. I'd want a warts and all one.

They are doing a Bowie biopic called Stardust, with Johnny Flynn (Beast, Clouds of Sil Maria, Genuis tv show) as Bowie, Jena Malone as Angie Bowie, and Marc Maron. It's set for release in 2020. It's about Bowie's first visit to U.S in 1971 that inspired his invention of Ziggy Stardust. But Duncan Jones has blocked them from using any of his dad's music.

We have had a few on Elvis already, two good ones with John Carpenter's TV film with Kurt Russell and a very good TV film with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Randy Quaid. Michael Jackson one would be very interesting, if it's a truthful and honest one.

I just read something where Kristen Stewart was considered for a Bowie film. I thought that was a great idea.

I'm not sure how interesting an Elton John story is. Didn't die, didn't die of AIDS, peaked in the 70s, had a couple of good songs after. I'm sure one could make a good movie about his career, but I don't see anything inherently interesting.
He started wearing crazy glasses and outfits ! He admits he's Gay ! Wow !!

Didn't they do that woman plays a man thing before with Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan, and it was the best thing in the film I'm Not There. She pulled of playing a drugged up Dylan in 66 to perfection.

Elton John story for a good part of his life would make a great film, although I don't think they be doing a straight ahead biopic with this Rocketman film. He was the biggest solo star in music in the 70's, hid away his sexuality for years and had a bad drug problem for most of the 70's and 80's.

I don't know anything about Bernie Taupin, but I have always felt he was essential to Elton's success. I have no idea what their working relationship was, but when the two collaborated, those were some wonderful songs. EJ gets the credit but I always think of Taupin, so I hope he's featured prominently here.
