The Amazing True Story

I loved everything about this movie. I am born and raised in Detroit. I love to watch rockumentaries. There is so much to say about this story. What struck me first and foremost, is this is a movie about FAMILY, even more so than the music. The music is awesome, but the family and their loving message will blow you away!

Dug this film big time. Any lover of true music no matter the genre should check this out. Peace from Australia.

Another Detroiter that agrees with both of you !!!

I'm not from Detroit (been to Lansing once!) or Australia, but this was one of the best music docs I've ever seen. I've always kept punk at arm's length, as I love its energy and unpolished, DIY feel, but never connected with the self-consciously aggressive, nihlistic, "Hey, look how authentic and subversive we are! ₣ÛÇK EVERYBODY!!" veneer. I attended a Circle Jerks show in '88 or 89, and that was enough for me to know that probably wasn't my bag, baby.

These guys were so far removed from anything resembling a "scene" that they weren't tainted by all the bull$h|+. They just made their music. A black punk band of brothers who were family guys, loved their momma, speak politely, go to church and would eventually record religious-themed music? That can't be a thing, can it?

Turns out, it can. These guys are much more interesting (and 1,000X more likeable) than the Sid Viciouses and GG Allins of the world will ever be.

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.

Also, they made funk and reggae (sans David) - all around musicians that could switch it up. Like you said, instead of being hung up about a scene or type - they did what they felt right.
