Smashed or Flight?

I haven't seen Smashed but Flight is mostly about addiction. Is Smash better than or more serious than Flight?

Edit: OK I watched both of them and like them both. They almost compliment each other. I am actually surprised that Flight could have gotten away with such big budget acting and directing.

Flight has a MUCH better storyline that stays with you. Smashed is a good story, and acting but see that, none that. Flight is different. Go with Flight.

"Flight has a MUCH better storyline that stays with you. Smashed is a good story," Agreed. The difference between both smashed and flight is that the person who made the film(s) has experience .The person who made smashed lacks experience compared to the person that made flight.

OK, I saw it and some both movies. I don't know. I think you had that it backwards. Smashed seemed *beep* But Flight seemed like a pretty real ending.

In Smashed the girl go her life back together and everything was roses. In Flight, he didn't get his life back together and ended up in jail.

I suppose I'll be the voice of dissent here and say that I found Smashed to be more... relatable. Not that I'm an addict or anything, but it didn't feel as sensationalized as Flight did. Not that there's anything wrong with Flight, it's just that those are Zemeckis' tendencies as a filmmaker, and those tendencies don't always ring true for me.

However, I don't think it's too necessary to choose between the two. Both are compelling explorations of alcoholism anchored by two sensational lead performances. I'd say they're both worth watching.

I think there's been a rape up there!

Agreed. I can't believe I watched two really good films in the same day.

Well, the difference between Flight and Smashed is the difference between a morality lecture and an understanding of reality. I would certainly recommend the second.

I suggest no comparison between these two films. Smashed is more in the line of 28 days (with Sandra Bullock) about accepting and facing your problem and going on with your life. Flight is more about the end consequences that somebody had to face because he did nothing to cure himself on time.

Smashed reeked of Blue Valentine.
Blue Valentine was better.
So was Flight.

Both focus on the addicted.
Smashed just tells the story of an addiction.
Oh well.

Flight.

Smashed was good too, but it isn't anywhere near as memorable as Flight.

Flight is a much better film, by far. It totally explores addiction on a real level. The last ten minutes totally ruin the movie though, such a cop out ending. I could still love it though, with the brilliant acting, interesting morally ambiguous storyline and fine cinematography. Smashed was just bland garbage with it's cop out, totally unrealistic, banal ending extending to half the running time instead of the last ten minutes.

"Flight" had such a lousy script. I wonder why Robert Zemeckis made his live action return with that project?
