SHE LOOKS SO GOOD FOR AN ALCOHOLIC

Wrong cast choice?

reply

I think they tried to make her look a little weathered at the beginning, but she's naturally beautiful and it didn't really matter

reply

I mean she's really fit and energetic in this movie. This actress sucked, she failed to perform, her loose attire didn't do any good for the image she tried to show.

reply

Not all alcoholics look like meth heads. She looked pretty real for a young alcoholic, I don't know what type of alcoholics you've been around.

reply

She looks and acts healthy and fit.

Sometimes it's difficult to recognise an alcoholic physically, particularly if the person is young. Drug addiction is more debilitating physically and is fairly easy to spot. But it was a wrong cast choice in that I wasn't convinced by Winstead as an alcoholic.

reply

She was still young and relatively healthy. It takes a while before women start showing deterioration from chronic alcohol abuse.

Get me a bromide! And put some gin in it!

reply

Have you ever seen When a Man Loves a Woman? A depressing movie about an alcoholic and the effects on the family. That said, Meg Ryan also looked beautiful for most of the movie.

reply

Lindsay lohan doesn't look bad to me, plus other 'troubled' actresses. Maybe LL could have played the part!

Anyway they made her look affected by alcohol in more subtle ways than giving her a giant red nose and weighing 200 pounds.

reply

Uh, no. Go to an AA meeting or two, especially the young peoples' ones, and you'll see plenty of attractive women. They don't normally look so hot in the throes of puking or whatnot, but it's not like alcohol completely destroys your physical appearance. I'm a guy, and I certainly gained some color back and gained a bit of weight (which is a good thing in my case) after I stopped drinking, but I was passing through law school just fine and didn't look all crazy and drugged out when I was a drinker. Lots of us pass for "regular people" every day :)

>Alcoholic
>attractive

AHAHAHAHAH, no. Edgy kid thinking they're alcoholic because they drink in this thread.

reply

Whatever, I'm in my 30's and successful, and a recovering alcoholic. You're a dumb POS.

reply

Who's asking you anything?

reply

Paul Newman was gorgeous as the alcoholic Brick in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Maggie even says she wishes he'd lose his looks like other alcoholics. And that does happen with time. If she had kept on that path then it would have ravaged her looks, but she had youth and good genes on her side.

reply

So glad you brought up a male example. If it were a good-looking guy who was the alcoholic protagonist, would this thread even exist? I hate to be the one to scream sexism, but really, why is it okay for drunk men to look however they like and everyone's fine with it, but drunk women have to be ugly or else they're not really alcoholics? Seriously?

You heart me? What is that? Is that like I love you for pussies?

reply

Well, being an alcoholic in your 20s wouldn't really ruin your looks overnight, it's not like the movie was shot when she's in her 40s

reply

On the contrary...I thought Winstead was great in the part...she didn't have one false moment and was very convincing especially when drunk. Acted just like people act when drunk. How could you say just because she was pretty she couldn't play a alcoholic? Lee Remick in Days of Wine and Roses and as someone mentioned Meg Ryan in WAMLAW.

What was up with that guy who liked her from school and got her into the meetings? Why would he say such a crude thing to someone he liked? I think his life should have been examined.
