Reimbursed?

For what? She lived off of him during the marriage and now she wants more?

This country's laws are insane.

I agree with both you and her. Yes this countries laws are insane when it comes to the amount of money someone can get to alimony. The whole becoming "accustomed to a lifestyle" that they "deserve" to keep living is BS but I do think they are entitled to a little bit of money in certain cases.

If one spouse has a high paying job and the other spouse has to follow them around from city to city for example they would be unable to build an independent and solid career to live on. Plus I would find it believable that she would have to spend a lot of time keeping up appearances at home for get togethers with clients and things. Since he made all the money his needs always came first and there for her independent career would suffer.

Now does she deserve 50% of his money for the rest of her life? No, but I don't think it's unreasonable for her to get some money for a few years to get her back up on her feet.

Yes, I also think part of the issue was that when they divorced, she totally blamed herself. She probably did not take anything from him, because she felt that she was at fault. If we assume they had been together a while, maybe even 10+ years, certainly she was entitled to something after the divorce. I mean, maybe to some extent he (the ex-husband) created or at least contributed to many of her issues, like her lack of direction in life, lack of accomplishment, etc., because she said how he had always made her feel worthless and invisible.

When she left she didn't take anything or ask for anything. She had quit graduate school short of doing her thesis to marry him. Then she played host to his parties, etc, as he climbed the ladder.

Until he dumped her for a younger woman. His excuse was his life was so routine that he was bored because he could see the rest of his life stratched out for years to come. Well, did he change his life in any way? No, he was doing the samo samo minus the new woman as well.

After she dug out the art pictures she had taken for her thesis, she made plans to go on the cruise with her mother and resume her photography project. I think she probably wants money from him long enough to get the thesis and move on with her life.

How many women have quit college to support a penniless huband get his education? Then been cast aside when he becomes successful and gets himself some arm candy.

I don't know everything. Neither do you.
