I'm going to have to discredit your views all together after referring to his previous projects as "trash". His recent films might not have resonated with you, but to write them off as "trash" is a bit much.
Malick is an auteur who isn't afraid to do something radically different from the traditional narrative. The Tree of Life, To the Wonder and Knight of Cups are all the part of an unofficial autobiographical trilogy which utilizes a stream-of-consciousness filming style. No other director working out there has achieved such a soaring, personal vision. I also recommend you try watching these films more than once. There is so much going on in them that you usually will get more from it after a rewatch.
And guess what? Malick obviously could care less about making a huge profit off his films. He doesn't make films for the sole purpose to get money, he makes them for his own personal and creative reasons. So you have to respect that. He finances his own films as he supposedly has a lot of oil money. He doesn't even do interviews or press conferences for his films, so he could probably care less whether or not he gets many award nominations.
And you speaking of hoping the "script is good". Well, hate to break it to you, but this film was made without a script. So it's probably going to be an experience similar to his last couple films. However he recently finished filming a movie called "Radegund" in Germany earlier this year that supposedly is going to be a return to his more narrative-driven films that were made with a physical script. So that film is probably one that will peak your interest more.
Terrence Malick is such a talented, innovative filmmaker. We don't deserve him.
