Already better than the Hitman sequel

I've almost come to terms with accepting that the Hitman movie franchise based on the video games will probably never be good. Hollywood just doesn't care.

However, I can easily accept this movie as a replacement. This is a brilliant film that captures the atmosphere, tension and intrigue that the original Hitman movie should have had.

Instead of a loud, bellowing, annoying blockbuster, this movie was a subdued, conscious effort to tell a good and complex character-driven story.

It's unfortunate they didn't grab Luke Goss for the Hitman sequel but he at least does a very, very good job here, showcasing that this will probably be the closest thing we'll get to seeing Agent 47 on screen the way he should have been portrayed.

First: How can it already be better than a movie that wont begin shooting until this summer (summer 2013)?
Second: This movie is "okay", but it is nowhere near as good as you are insinuating to the readers of this thread. This movie was "okay". Nothing more. And, that is taking into account the fact that it was made with a relatively low budget ($17.3 Million). However, keep in mind that the first Hitman movie was also made on a small budget ($24 million). Also, the Hitman movie made over $160 million as of last November (11/2012). I'd say that is a success! This movie, with a comparable budget, will not make half as much and the acting by Goss is nowhere near as good as Olyphant's portrayal of Agent 47. I, like many others am sad to hear that Timothy wont be reprising his role as agent 47 in the sequel to Hitman (Due to scheduling conflicts), but I am sure that Paul Walker will do a decent job.
Point being: This movie is OKAY, but it is not as good as "Hitman"!!!!

LOL you must not play the Hitman games?

Agent 47 from the original series is a far cry from how Timothy portrayed him. I like Olyphant as an actor but he was not Agent 47. Tim was this kind of awkward, stolid bald guy in a suit who killed people.

Goss's portrayal of Victor was almost a dead ringer for Agent 47, maintaining a cold but likeable persona who followed his own set of rules that didn't need any exposition. Goss also maintained a much more identifiable hitman characteristic in the way he operated that was also identical to the way the character is portrayed in the games. So um, yeah Interview With A Hitman was a lot closer to the game than the actual Hitman movie with Tim.

I am sure that Paul Walker will do a decent job.

This, oh boy...

Walker has never been an exceptionally good actor and I really, really, really doubt that he's going to bring some Oscar-worthy performance to a complex character like Agent 47, especially given Hollywood's hate for video games. The very mention of Paul Walker and Agent 47 in the same sentence makes me cringe.

I would give you a "Thumbs Up", if possible.
You are "dead on" with everything..

Glad to finally seeing Olyphant the same way as I do, in the Hitman movie.
He seems as out-of-place in that movie, as a cat at a dog show.

The way Goss plays his character, is something I would really loved for the Hitman movie.. Maybe not Goss (Eventhough he's an "okay actor") - but the way he plays the character..

What irks me most about the Hollywood adaptations, is that David Bateson (the actor who voices 47 and on whom the character's physical likeness is based) has not been approached to reprise his role on film. In my mind, and those of many other fans of the franchise, Bateson is synonymous with 47. Though he is known in the US mostly for his voice work, Bateson is very much a screen actor. As he'd expressed interest in playing the role himself, there really is no legitimate reason why he should not have been at least considered for the role in the live-action films. Although, I suppose he's just not as marketable as mediocre-talent pretty-boy, Walker.

You know, I never brought up Bateson for the same reason I wouldn't mention Nolan North for playing Nathan Drake in a live action adaptation of Uncharted: Hollywood treats actors for games like scum.

Gamers absolutely flipped out when it was first mentioned that Bateson would be replaced in Absolution, especially when Eidos went with some young dandy to appeal to the COD ADHD audience. So it's not surprising that if Bateson is treated like scum in a franchise he helped breathe an identity into within the game space, there's literally no hope in the movie space.

The only way Bateson might make it into the film is if Vinny D used all his cash-in cards as executive producer and pulled major strings and slept with a lot of other producers to get them to bring Bateson on.

I wouldn't mind if Goss got a shot at it, though, as proven in Interview with a Hitman, he at least comes close to Agent 47's portrayal (though perhaps a bit more humanized/sentimental).

Such a shame, though, because Walker will absolutely murder the Hitman franchise. None of his work has ever indicated that he has the range to pull off Agent 47.

Heres the difference between Bateson and North. Agent 47 was not only voice acted by him but modeled and based off him. If you look at pictures he is a spitting image of 47. People will say oh he is not the best actor of all time so he will never play a live action version of 47 but this is complete and utterly not true. Playing 47 really would not require much acting if the character was done right. As we see in the games he rarely speaks and shows any emotion. Thats not because of Bateson's portrayal its because it is how the character is written. He is a cold blooded killer and a clone without emotion. You don't really need to require live action acting experience for the role.

The movies are ruining because of Fox who knows nothing about the subject material who will keep hiring Skip Woods as their go to boy to make a no plot action movie. Skip Woods probably gets paid cheapest in Hollywood and he is able to write a fast script full of plot holes. The only decent movie he written was Live Free and Die Hard and that really was not even faithful to the Die Hard series. It was what changed Die Hard from the more realistic situation (for what it was) to an all out action 80s movie. Die Hard if you really watch it closely was never an all out action movie it was presented more realistic than most action movies in terms that John McClain was taking out badguys one at a time and there were moments in the trilogy that there were over the top action parts but for the most part was more of a movie you can say that could happen. He was being sneaky and taking out terrorists one at a time. Skip Woods took Live Free and turned it into a over the top action movie like he didn't really have a understanding for the original series he was just hired because he was cheap. Then a Good Day to Die Hard that movie was a complete disaster again written by Skip Woods. Skip Woods also wrote X-Men Origins: Wolverine and both Hitman Movies. So when it comes down to it Fox is hiring their go to boy Skip Woods who never cared about original Source material. He writes a fast script and writes it in a fashion that Fox can shoot it with a smaller budget.

So the more Fox continues to keep giving this guy a job then the more these movies will continue not having a chance to succeed. As for Paul Walker when he was announced for 47 I was against it then I saw pictures of him bald and it changed my mind about him I actually became excited for him in the role. But after his passing this new guy they hired they couldn't even cut his hair fully and looks nothing like 47.

Also if you want proof that David Bateson could pull it off given the right script then here
