Any other Americans love this show?

Just curious. Tried to show it to some of my friends and they missed a lot of the humor.. I guess either didn't understand a lot of the slang or whatever. My girlfriend and I are both American and instantly loved it though.

I'm American (currently living in Scotland, though) and I love this show!

Some people just don't get British humor. Sometimes it's the accent and the slang, sometimes it's just the delivery of the jokes. If it's too dry or deadpan, people just don't get it. They need their jokes spoon fed to them. I tried to get some friends into Garth Marenghi because they like horror stuff and funny stuff...fell completely flat (boggles the mind) but I show them a very straight forward sitcom style show like IT Crowd and they liked it. I saw the title pop up on streaming sites and decided to check it out when I found out who was in the cast. It's continued to get better and better and I hope that it gets picked up for a 2nd season!

Yeah, I enjoy this show but it does frustrate me sometimes that I miss about 1/3 of Howard's dialog and maybe 1/5 of Vod's and Josie's, even after watching lots of other British shows. I even tried watching a couple episodes of Greg McHugh's other show, "Gary: Tank Commander" to get a feel for the Scottish. Howard is my favorite regardless! He's so kind and innocent!

To be fair though this show is only part comedy; it largely revolves around who's having sex with whom and who's died, with a couple comedic side plots thrown into each episode. So some American viewers will hate Fresh Meat or Skins for the same reason they hate American teenager dramas.

I'm British and i didn't find Garth Marenghi funny at all, that show is very niche and a bit of an acquired taste.

I'm american and I like it, although I don't love it. I prefer peep show, which was made by the same people.

As for the humor differences, while that is a standard stereotype of the 2 types, I don't think it is quite so easy to split the 2 nations. America has all sorts of comedy, from deadpan to irony. While we produce some *beep* as well, often our *beep* is like the top rated program in England or Australia, so you can't exactly say its just Americans bad taste.

Furthermore, while I like this show, it isn't exactly the type of humor I would expect to go over people's head in America. Its pretty straightforward, generally (although maybe some of the class-related humor may be lost)

There is indeed a series 8 of peep show coming up next year

I do!!!! I will agree Howard is the person I have the most problems understanding then comes vod. It took me most of the series to really get into the show but the last three episodes won me over. It seems that the show gets better as it progresses and now i wanna go back and watch the earlier episodes again now that I'm well adjusted to the show. I really hope someone torrents the new season or else its gonna be a tough wait being that we don't have the luxury of ch4.

I am American, I love this show almost as much as Peep Show. One of the things I love most is listening to the different accents, the welsh, the chav, the posh...the pace at which the characters speak and the great writing make it better than all American comedies...

Do what I did with "The Wire" and watch the first couple of episodes with sub-titles on until your ear gets tuned in.

Yep, I'm from Texas. Definitely found it entertaining, I wouldn't say it made me laugh as hard as Peep Show, or even Misfits, but I still found myself getting invested with the story lines. Since i'm on break i've watched every episode these past 2 days, pretty upset when I read that series 3 wont be out for another year

I'm an American who was raised on public television. I was watching reruns of "Are You Being Served?" and "Last of The Summer Wine" since I was a kid. In highschool my best friend and I watched "Absolutely Fabulous" religiously. Now, I was an Army brat so I was born and spent my youth in Germany, but I've spent the majority of my adolescence in the States, where I also currently reside. Not sure if it matters, tho.

Now, while I'll admit for quite some time not only was British comedy limited by what was shown here, most people only knew of "Monty Python" and the like, the culture of the UK was also very obscure to us. Most theaters weren't showing the big British blockbusters, and to be honest the Puritan sense of censorship in the States around the time (90's to early 00's) wouldn't have allowed most of the supposedly scandolous topics that Europeans are used to. Hell, I remember the clamor that was raised when our teen dramas started showing openly gay teens "My So Called Life", or mixed couples "Saved By The Bell". So perhaps it's our medias and indirectly our culture to not want to delve any deeper into subject matter that we know we're comfortable with.

The reason I bring this up is to provide a possible reasoning as to why We Americans, might appear to not "get" British comedy. Perhaps it's not that we don't understand it, it's just that we have not been exposed to enough of it.

Now, with the availablity of content provided by most cable providers, DirectTV, and the internet from such sights as Hulu.com that is likely to change. And with shows such as "Misfits", "Spy", "Fresh Meat", and the like, and our medias increasingly lax views of what's taboo formed from such pay-per view sources, Americans can now realize that British humor is much more than just high-brow, dry wit, and dull that some of us have been wrongly lead to believe. That it in fact has a very large range of content sure to please just about anyone.

I'm American and I love this show! Really good! Howard is the only one I have trouble understanding cause of that heavy Scottish accent haha but other than that everyone else is fine to understand and I lived in England for a while so I get much of the humor. Another good show (not as good) is the Australian show called SLiDE which I also watched on Hulu, which is very similar to Fresh Meat! I'm glad there is a 3rd series happening! Can't wait! I can rewatch this show over and over and not get tired...I'm actually watching it right now haha
