We called them "piss tubes" in Korea after the armistice. They were usually made from the metal tubes that artillery shells came in, and were planted seemingly at random, mostly out in the open. Then came the inspection tour of Mrs. Anna Rosenberg, an assistant secretary of defense, in 1953. After seeing one or two of them in use she ordered that they be screened from public view.
