My vote for the most polarized, hateful message board of 2016 *spoilers*

Reading through this message board, it's obvious that Eye in the Sky has polarized many viewers, and enraged many as well. I have, many times, heard the same argument made that this behavior is indicative of the fact that "the film must have done something right." In this case, I both agree and disagree.

Here's the thing: Eye in the Sky puts all its eggs in one basket. If you can form an emotional attachment to the girl, you'll likely find this incredibly, painfully suspenseful. If you don't, you'll find yourself screaming at Aaron Paul to pull the damn trigger for 60 minutes. Of course, the other major factor here is that those with a military background may feel more strongly about the necessity of eliminating a target, while those who do not will see the girl's death as more of a human rights violation. The film even uses its own characters to portray the audience's potential reactions, and uses them to make a statement about the damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't decisions that are likely far too common in any military operation.

So I think we can all agree that internet anonymity, on average, has the potential to bring out the extremist in all of us. As I'm browsing the boards for this film, I see tons of posts about "JUST KILL THE GIRL ALREADY" and "HOW DARE YOU WANT THE GIRL DEAD!" but what really disturbs me is that those giving semi-rational explanations for why they should have bombed immediately always feel the need to throw in a little extra hate. People just have to get that little dig in about how she deserved it for selling dirty bread, or being a Muslim, or being a little girl. On the other hand, we have those who condemn the former as trolls, practically dehumanizing them. And amidst all of this, we have the "either I or a family member were in the military, we know what we're talking about" people, who you just can't reason with because they will hold that security clearance over the heads of their peers for the rest of their lives.

And it's all so one-note! There are tons of posts beating the dead horse from one side of the fence or the other. I don't think I've seen a board this toxic since The Passion of the Christ or American Sniper.

So congrats guys. Good job. You managed to impress me almost as much as the film. I think we need a new Razzie category for worst IMDB board.

Wow, that was probably the smartest thing I've ever read on imdb board. Well done!

Well thanks guys! But shouldn't you be telling me to stop being such a d*** liberal douche, because 'merica, and then criticizing me for not being PC enough?

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the sentiment that if you give a man a mask he'll tell you the truth. Too many people just like pushing buttons. There's nothing of extremism in attention seeking, shock value or looking for an argument. An IMDb message board is no place to go looking for sincerity, extreme or otherwise.

It won't be a future problem. These boards are being shut down later this month. Part of it is due to the religious, political and racist hate being spewed which has nothing to do with movies.
