Samantha is different on this show...

I can't see the Samantha from this show evolving into the Samantha from SATC. There's similarities in both versions (their sex lives), but SATC's Samantha owned a law firm in her late 30s whereas TCD's Samantha had no stable career nor living situation, and she was in her late 20s. Not to mention, she was working odd jobs. I know some people get a later start in life (I'm one of them), but how do you go from that to owning a law firm in 10 years?

reply

Miranda was the lawyer on SATC. Samantha was some kind of PR person.

reply

Oh yeah, it was a PR firm that she owned. Oops!

reply

On one SATC episode Samantha said "I was working as a waitress/bartender in my 20's"

reply

I could definitely see that but I was waiting for her to have the hints at liking the finer things like she does later.

reply

Because obviously she is not wealthy enough to enjoy that lifestyle yet?

reply

And? American culture is built on spending and living above our means. I've been putting a napkin on my lap and enjoying filet mignon at fancy restaurants since I was three. I drink champagne that costs 415$ a bottle. I am not rich. But you can always prefer the finer things in life. I believe Samantha often believed in having the best and being the best or not doing it at all. She could top everyone and she never let her connections fail her. This Samantha was actually more revolted than reveled in this atmosphere which I found odd.

reply

If you're not rich then how you can afford a bottle of wine for 415$ is such a mystery to me. Maybe i don't understand that because I'm not American. 415$ is like a monthly income of the average white collar worker here.

On the subject maybe not everyone had the luxury to enjoy finer things in life from the young age. They didn't had parents who can afford fancy meals, expensive clothing etc. Not all people have same backround as you, aren't they? But that doesn't mean they can enjoy certain lifestyle or have no taste.

Maybe mature Samantha had a fine lifestyle because she struggled through her youth and worked her ass of to own her pr firm by all herself. Her lack of material wealth might drive her to be successful

reply

I wasn't rich. The filet was once in a while but I loved the nice restaurants. I get a 21$ glass OF that 415$ bottle of champagne because I'm too poor to afford it all the time or by the bottle myself. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, see? Sam liked all that stuff, rich or no. I've always loved the finer life, and so do many Americans. Many are "house poor" meaning they have a cheap house within their means but spend on designer bags and cars because they want luxury anyway. They aren't millionares but want the best regardless of their wealth. That was Samantha. Not on this show though and that's inconsistant.

reply

Your original post acted like she couldn't have fine taste yet because she couldn't afford it. I disproved this and then your recent post seems to defend being able to enjoy fine things even when not able to afford it. So you actually agree...

reply

Actually Samantha was "house poor". She bought a fake Fendi purse in L.A. If she valued quality on everything she would have bought the original purse in the first please. I mean she would easily afford them, but she was cheap

reply

She wasn't cheap. She was successful but she also wasn stupid. That was before knock offs got their recognition and bad wrap.

reply

Do not waste time arguing with dreamcatcher worlf.

Every weekend she gets in a mood and starts arguments on here.

reply

Ask her to tell the you the story of her life is like Friday Night Lights.

That will make you laugh.

reply

I'm nowhere close to buy a bottle of champagne 415$. Monthly mortgage, bills, groceries are almost 400$, so i'm in no place for spend that much money on a unnecessary luxury. But doesn't mean i don't enjoy fine things. Few hard and smart work years later when i start to earn enough money to cover household things without headache then i might consider some good champagne.

reply

It's not based on SATC nor is it a prequel. This show is based on the books

reply

Exactly! But in the books, Samantha has a good advertising job, planning to marry a rich man, AND has her own apartment.
She also has a saying, "Fake it 'til you make it"

Because Samantha knows how to give head to get ahead.
