i would of liked it better if it was simpler

i think i would of liked it better if it became more about the affair between the student and teacher and just left it at that...after they had sex and then started to argue, it went downhill for me...

I agree! The affair lasted a few mins and then it just spiraled out of control. Then she started liking the father and Jason had a make out session with someone else. It was just a lot of extra stuff that did not have to happen.
They (Miss Sinclair and Jason) should have just kept up the "relationship" for the whole movie.

The writers weren't willing to commit to the weirdness of their premise. They kind of half-assed all the interesting stuff: the teacher-student 'affair', the random teacher-father attraction, the high school director's almost Machiavellian ambition...

What a waste of a great cast 

Stop! Manners time.

Absolutely! This started out as a pleasant story about a repressed, lonely teacher and then: Hey kids, let's put on a show! This is a bit of a misfire, but thanks mostly to Julianne Moore, I enjoyed it. 7/10 stars from me, which I guess would qualify as a B.

I've come to know about this movie recently. I would have watched it before if I had known earlier about it. I am an English teacher so I became easily immersed in the plot.
I agree. One thing is the incestuous-like and adrenaline-charged relationship between Miss Sinclair and her ex-student, Jason. Another thing (not very fortunate from my point of view) is the relationship between the teacher - who has had a flirt with Jason - and Jason's father...a totally incestuous affair. I think the teacher goes out of the frying pan into the fire concerning love. All in all I laughed a lot while watching the film.

It wasn't really about the affair though. It was about her repressed life and finding somehow the opportunity to break out of it. She had that moment with him and then everything hit the fan, so yeah, it was horrible for a while, but in the end, through persistence and a bit of luck, she came through it a better and more realistic person than she started.
