I loved this movie

It was really fun and made me LOL in quite a few places. Very enjoyable. A good date movie I think :)

Fully agree with you!

I somewhat agree as well, people judge the indie scene a bit too harshly i think, but overall the movie fulfills exactly what you intended to see.

I like it. Well written dialogues with good acting job all around. This is a solid 7 or 7.5 movie.

reply

I really don't get why people hated it. The sex with the student part was actually the reason why I liked the movie because it really contributed to the movie.

It was entertaining, I just don't get how people call a movie like this, "one of the worst they've ever seen." Seriously, I've seen plenty of movies that have gravely incompetent actors and horrible scripts. Movies so bad that I swear a third of the way into shooting they had to have considered, should we cut our losses now? LOL

As for the criticism I've seen of Julianne Moore's performance, I don't get that either. She's a very good actor and isn't just collecting a paycheck here. It's a comedy of sorts, so she's supposed to cry pathetically.

I gave The English Teacher 6/10

Me too. I'm so tired of movies with shoot outs and car chases. I wish there was a rating system for ADULTS so that we could weed out all the STUPID movies. Maybe that's what the more refined movie critics are for. (Unlike the critics that sell their souls to hollyweird - and give ANY dreck a good rating.)

I enjoyed the film (on Netflix).
- Right away there was a combination of different kinds of comedy.
The narrator had witty remarks about the traditional romantic female heroine (Linda's character).
But this clashed with the reality of fearing being robbed and pepper spraying a former student.

And that contrast between old fashioned romance and gritty events that can happen in a US high school was a good part of the fun.

- Next was Nathan Lane's performance as the drama teacher; over the top and exaggerated.
I've known people like this (since I've been involved in some student productions).

- The cast was good, and the photography and direction worked.

* I've seen a lot of English TV romances with my wife. And "The English Teacher" was a nice change of pace.

7/10.

BB ;-)

it's just in my opinion - imo -

I really enjoyed the movie, I can't believe this one has so low a rating (5,8) when so many crappy movies have been rated higher. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

I gave it 7/10 also. I was surprised I had never heard of it until I spotted it at the library, considering the strong cast, so I set my expectations very low. Regardless, I found it a pleasant enough diversion – very lightweight, but there's nothing wrong with that at all.

sophie curtis is a name to watch and i wish fallon hughes would fall on me .lol.

Judging by the commentary here, a lot of people didn't get what the film is about or trying to do. They've seen too many cookie cutter rom-coms and are under the impression this is a bad version of one of them. Yes, yes it is. Because it's not trying to be a rom-com at all.
