Underrated

There doesn't seem to be much love for this movie. I admit that I haven't read Heinrich von Kleist's novella but I thought that des Palliers's adaptation did justice to its difficult topics of justice, vengeance and Christianity.

I can't but totally agree, that 6.3 is a disgrace, it truly deserves some 7.5/7.75 for me. Did not know the book which adapts, so i'll go avidly after this one now.

I think people are just expecting something different, quicker, more like Braveheart. I agree this isn't a quick movie but very beautiful. Every shot is like a picture in itself, I loved the locations, the houses etc. , the beautiful scenery, the stunning horses and of course lovely Mr. Mikkelsen. I really liked the love making scene as well, felt very real and honest. I think France works with the story but I actually think this would have been great in German as well..

Eculles, I agree with everything you said very well. You mentioned the lovemaking scene so I will ask your thoughts on something a bit confusing to me. What did you think when the daughter came to their room and said that the mother told her to let her know if she heard them making love? She says this and while still there they continue. I wonder if it was just the time and thoughts on lovemaking was more open than now. Did they feel that she was old enough and should know what it was about and that it was normal and beautiful and nothing to fear or be ashamed of. I don't know, it was just different than what we usually see or do.

I think in those days people lived much closer to eachother so children would hear their parents "having fun". I definitely think sex was considered as natural and a part of life. I don't really understand the comment of the daughter though. She says: You told me not to pretend to sleep when I hear you making love. Don't know about that one. The goal was I guess is not having a weirded out kid and not have her worry when she heard her parents doing something quite natural.
It is kind of funny because the parents actually stop and you can just see them thinking....ahhh damn it...what the hell did I tell my daughter!!?

For me it was a solid 9, very close to 10. The film was especially very, very well written, while the directing and Mads' interpretation were superb. I can only imagine that the low rating is due to wrong people watching the film.
