7.5 for this? (Yes, it's one of those threads...)

I'm not going to make one of those "yet Batman Begins gets 11.5?!?!" comparisons but I genuinely feel 7.5 is far too generous for this.

My biggest problem is the plot. What is it exactly? Is the struggle of Marion Cotillard's character to come to terms with her new disability? Is it her romance with the street fighter? Is it him finding some purpose in his life? None are sufficiently explored.

The two main characters aren't likeable either. She's needy even before her accident and he's a dick throughout, mainly with his attitude towards women yet he gets the happy ending? Are we meant to think he's a nice guy because he dates a girl with no legs, even though he just treats her like his bits on the side aka a cum bucket?

None of it felt original either. It's not a bad film but 7.5 and talk of Oscar nominations for at least one of the actors? I accept that some of those who will reply to this thread will disagree with me but please add more than just "shock horror, people like different things" or giving me a virtual pat on the head and imply that I don't "understand" cinema. Tell me why you think this film is so good.

Movies are an art form. For people to connect to a movie they must either see themselves in it, or have empathy with the characters, or both. I'm guessing you felt neither?

I found the film to be very touching and well made. The performances were great. I give it 8.5/10.

7.5 is too low. By imdb standards, it deserves at least a 7.9

I pretty much agree with barry70.

It's about spot on. I debated between 7 & 8 and if half points were available that's where it would land.

What is the plot? Two people with different struggles that find a common ground perhaps?
