PG13???

Why is this movie PG13?? I was really hoping to take our elementary boys from our church, who love baseball, but that does not seem appropriate bc of the rating. How sad.

if these boys are at least 12 it shouldn't be a problem. Dove gave it 5 doves and says it's suitable for ages 12 and up. http://dove.org/reviewmasterframe.asp?SearchType=Source&Keyword=Theater&Unique_ID=9798

They have to rate something like this PG-13 due to the intense subject matter dealing with Alcoholism, abuse, etc. However, as with Sherwood Pictures movies (Fireproof, Courageous, etc.), the movie presents these things in a very careful manner so that most kids even 10-11 and up can enjoy it. Many kids have already seen some of these things in THEIR families. I allowed most of my kids (6 and up ) to see a screening and they were fine. (Youngest ones will just pick up on the little league stuff, etc.
BTW -- in my opinion, this is one of THE BEST inspirational movies to have come to the theaters. EVERYONE should try and see it (at least about 10 and up) -- youth, adults and seniors!

I saw the movie last night and I would caution against bringing younger children because when they have the CR meetings, they talk about sex and porn addiction, and sexual abuse as hurts, habits, and hangups. It comes up about 3 times in the movie. Dove.org says 12 and over. I suppose I'd agree with that, depending on the kid.

They will all be alcoholics and drug addicts soon anyways.

If your kids are watching any news on tv, this is fine for them. The regular 5 o'clock news has much more touchier issues than this movie everyday!

This movie isn't actually about baseball, the lead character is just a baseball player and ends up also coaching little league, which takes up a handful of scenes.

The girth of the film is about the Celebrate Recovery process, and as other people responded, as it does contain scenes with the lead character hitting his rock bottom, graduate 12-steppers giving their testimonies, and small group sharing, there are themes of sexual abuse, physical abuse, pornography addiction, drug and alcohol addiction, etc.

If you are a CR household, then your children, 12 and over, will probably be able to handle this movie, as CR offers programs for both children and teens, as well as adults.
