Seems like it's pretty unfairly getting picked apart. I know it's not perfect, but I can't help but love how genuine it felt. There were no forced conflicts between crew mates, no love triangles, no overly exaggerated personalities, just seemingly real people trying to fix a problem on a planet they know nothing about. Personally I loved the speed of the film, or lack thereof. I guess I don't understand the need to point to minor inconsistencies as if they somehow diminish what was otherwise a refreshing take on the Michael Bay-esque plots we've all gotten so used to. This is everything I wanted the horrid Apollo 18 to be.

I think this film is a little too grounded and realistically crafted for the masses to appreciate. In my opinion, it was a fantastic glimpse at a plausible scenario that will likely play itself out in our lifetimes. It's methodic pace, departure from Hollywood cliches, and grounded scientific plot made this film an absolute treat for those of us who lay awake at night wondering what is out there and how will we discover it. Dont worry about the angry mob naysayers! After all, it inspired you and that is all that matters!

I like this movie, too. So you're surely not alone at all.

It's different than others to some extent and have got its own atmosphere thoughout the screen time.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is just too sophisticated for some stupid folk. About mid half into the movie i checked how much time has passed, it seemed like hours, when it only was about 40 minutes. I was surprised... the pace is amazing.

definite yes to all of the posts above. this movie actually made me feel like i'm part of the crew and was venturing into unknown territory with them, something no big-budget hollywood movie has ever accomplished. it was exhilarating at some points, especially when that woman stepped out to explore europa.

On the contrary, it was just too stupid for some sophisticated folks to enjoy. Full of plot holes and stupid plot devices. Probably it was enjoyable by the people who have their standards set at pretty low.

i checked how much time has passed, it seemed like hours, when it only was about 40 minutes. I was surprised... the pace is amazing.

LOL!! When a short period feels like hours, it is the tale tell sign of something being utterly boring mate. When something is enjoyable, time just flies and hours seem like minutes..

You folks should check out Apollo 18, if you haven't already. If you think this was good then trust me, you will think Appolo 18 is a masterpiece. No kidding.

What were some of the plot holes because I'm sure there were some but I didn't really notice any could you point them out?

Well, just to name a few.

1. The Spaceship will not get hit by solar flare without any warning.
2. Hydrazine would have been vaporized in the vacuum of space.
3. Astronauts will not venture for EVA without thruster module or tethering themselves to the spacecraft.

How did NASA who helped fund this venture and told them what is and what is scientific and true to their practices let those things go? Also, those are more scientific inaccuracies than plot holes.

1. Without warning? And WHO would warn them? Doesn't an EM Pulse travel at the speed of light? Earth would be hit, but any message to warn the ship would arrive AFTER the pulse! Which knocked out their com system so they'd never receive it...
As opposed to mass ejection, which is entirely different.
...
And yes, there were some "details" which the movie seems to get very wrong, but they are quite trivial, and this "lack of warning" is not one of them!
Overall? It was a good film! Just be reasonable about expecting "perfection" eh?

It is possible to pick at technical issues in (almost) any movie or book, find something that isn't quite right nor properly explained - and in movies of this nature, it will be miraculous if none are found. Sure, there are more than three faults in Europa Report, that I'm aware of. On balance though, the film gets quite a lot of things right, and the few flaws are not fatal to the narrative. Neither is the film's purpose to be a space science lecture. There is a story being told with some very interesting themes. Acting was top class, pacing was excellent, special effects quite good as well. The list of positives goes on.

Finally, I wish every Tom Dick & Sally that posts on IMDB first learn what a plot hole really is, before listing stuff that aren't plot holes at all. A plot hole is a logical inconsistency in the narrative timeline, like when something that happens in 2015 is presented as an event prior to something that happened in 2013. Technical flaws, continuity errors and characters doing ridiculously stupid things are NOT plot holes. Those are usually the results of imperfect production values, and other times poor research during the screen-writing process.

When a movie draws you in, it's hard to fathom so little time has passed as you're completely along for the ride.

That's what the person you're responding to meant, and how I felt about the movie as well. At one point I paused it and was surprised that an hour and twenty minutes had gone by. It went by quickly, and I was saddened the movie was almost over. I wanted it to keep going! The last time I felt that way was when I saw "There Will Be Blood".

I watched Apollo 18 prior to this movie (saw both on Netflix) and actually hadn't heard of Europa Report. Apollo 18 was interesting and fun in its own way, but it's really interesting how so many people said the movie was boring. Well, if you thought THAT movie was boring... Europa Report flew by too quickly for me.

So judging by the way SkyfireX sees movies, I must have set my standards pretty low for a movie I'd never heard of. When I have high standards for a movie, I'm usually disappointed.

I loved Europa Report (*** 1/2 out of ****). The film did a great job of capturing the awe, wonder, and tension of a deep space mission while building the thrill and anticipation of discovery. I'm generally not a fan of the found-footage format, but it worked here thanks to the numerous cameras and angles within and outside the ship (which were thankfully stationary, thus no shaky-cam). The cast was excellent, too.

I like it too. It was so fascinating because it could really be like that.
When I saw the guy floating out into space I felt the loneliness and the oppressive silence in that you see the ship disappearing at a rapid pace and being all fking alone millions miles aways from any where knowing that you die but you don't even have enough time left to think about your death. Just enough to think of the bereaved people.
At first when they hinted that they lost one but didn't show or say how I thought that other guy should get a grip and get over it and didn't understand why he was upset for the remaining time, but when they showed the story of it I could empathize with them.

What I didn't like were the time mess ups of the clips. I'd prefer them all in a chronological order. Would feel more realistic and less movie-like.

And I have no problem to watch such a movie straight after Star Trek - Into Darkness and like them both.

You are not alone.
I gave it an 8/10. I was blown away by just how 'real' it felt (like someone else said - no need for unnecessary conflict, love triangles and drama).
When Sharlto's character went floating off, I was actually holding my breath, my heart hammering away & I was filled with sadness for him.
I really liked it! REALLY!

@OP: It was indeed very enjoyable. Don't listen to the trolls. I certainly did NOT regret the 90 minutes spent watching this. I'd most likely watch it again at someone else's initiative.

Ah, stupid typo.. Alright you got me cheif, that typo certainly renders my opinion moot.

I'm not going to argue if it was a good movie or not, because that's totally subjective. You liked this movie, good for you. I did not.

I'm not saying it was a crap movie, it was watchable. But for me, it was far from being good. I was bothered by run-of-the-mill and predictable story line, the tired found-footage genre, poor editing, unnecessary flashy editing and rapid cuts, stupid and/or scientifically inaccurate plot devices, mediocre acting (but it can be forgiven), glaring plot holes and wasted potential. Although, the visuals were good. It would have been way better if the movie did not try to take itself too seriously.

PS: Oh and I'm glad that you found my signature dumb and hilarious, honestly I never thought anyone is going to hover and read it.
