every summer to camp in NJ? Richard has quite a thick british accent

Maybe his Dad lived in America and Richard had vacations with him occasionally?

that sounds about it. My daughter lives in Hawaii and has a real strong Island accent, but she spends summers and winters with me in the Mainland...

That sounds like the only good explanation! All through the movie I kept wondering how the hell he had a boyhood history of the Barrens yet has this 100% English accent no kid would have if they actually grew up in the States.

I didn't think maybe he just went vacationing. Good catch.

Ummm...he could have stayed in England until he was about 12 or so and then his family could've moved to America. His accent sounded like a mixture of British and American.
