Exposing the blood diamond trade by participating in it?

If he had only tried to get in close to observe, that would have been one thing, but to see the impoverished workers and see them staring back and then to buy the diamonds they produce, he is literally supporting the business of blood diamonds. Plus he gets a movie. And a few cartons of matches. And what happened to the diamonds anyway?
