Just how stupid were these 3?

Q. 1
How is blowing up a dam, especially a small one, going to help the environment?

I know some areas get flooded and in communist countries farmers get thrown off their land.

Yes in the past they did damage the environment but they are there now and what is the alternative solution? A nuclear power plant?

I think that yes ideally rivers should have been allowed to continue along their natural path but find a clean, green, renewable energy source first then gradually let more water through. Although lots farmers on the other (lower) side of the dam would argue that their livelihoods are being destroyed, and people could have since built homes there.

Q. 2 Also who were these 3? Were they some group like Greenpeace or PETA? I never saw them phone the media and take responsibility for it. For all they know the police could think it was Al-Queda or even just thugs.

Q. 3 Finally how stupid are they, that they think no-one will be killed? I mean the river bursts through and people could be camping, walking, driving, even living in it's path? I'm amazed only 1 person was killed. Seeing as they love the environment so much, what about all the animals and plants that drowned because of their actions?
