Dear SyFy Channel

Congratulations! I think with this movie you have created the worst movie genre of all time, "SyFy Channel Original Movies about Sharks" God I hate you people.

Have you see their killer crocks or mega-monsters airings? They make the shark airings look innocent by comparisons.

reply

And yet you watch them all.

I watched them for the same reason my dad used to watch politicians on TV. Just like having something to yell at. :)

PS Except SyFy Channel "original" movies have cute chicks in them.

The reason people watch these is to see how incredibly cheesy it is, not to see a seriously tense movie about sharks like Jaws. I'm sure the staff laugh at anyone actually taking these seriously. Do you think the producers sat down and actually thought casting Jerry O'Connell's no talent brother was going to add acting depth to their movie? He worked for the acting equivalent of a bag of peanuts. Or maybe he actually worked for a bag of peanuts. They did it to make it laughably bad without playing it up as a comedy. It wouldn't have worked if they had shot it as deliberately going for laughs. I know I laughed at it for being what it was.

In Canada it calls itself the Space Channel. It really should be renamed The Horror Channel, as that's almost all they run these days... Vampires, low budget horror and painfully lousy shark crapfests like this one.

In their opening year of existance the space channel ran a lot of great old sci-fi movies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. There are a veritable TON of them out there, and I had a field day watching them. But slowly the original mandate of this station, that being to provide the massive sci-fi fan base access to the wealth of great science fiction content spanning eight decades give or take, was morphed into what we see today... a station barely worth watching anymore.

Dear Space (or SyFy) Channel -- please get back to running great space, sci-fi, and sci-fi-horror movies, unedited original cuts, including those of the classic era and not just the widely known ones, and keep them coming.

Sincerely,

A fan of all that you currently aren't showing.
