The Asylum makes a movie in an ACTUAL franchise?

And they still make it a ripoff of a seperate franchise? How do they manage to do that? Are they so used to doing ripoffs that when given the chance to continue a semi-classic film series, they decide to turn it into a ripoff of another current movie series?

I think it is more about updating the franchise for the times....and no, I'm not really defending this movie, but a few years back they had even announced the new Friday the 13th could be found footage.

I think because of the supposid true events of the AMITYVILLE ghost story, the idea is not really copyright anyway, unless it's an actual adaptation of the events in question, like the Defeo murders or the Lutz story. Come to think of it I doubt a few of the previous AMITYVILLE films are officially sequels to the first film.

So probably anyone can make a haunted house movie, call in AMITYVILLE something, and cash in on the franchise.

Amityville is the name of the town where the supposed haunting took place, so it probably can't be trademarked or copyrighted. Since this is the Amityville Haunting, and not the Amityville Horrror, I guess they aren't infringing.
