The parents

I'm an hour into this movie and I think I am still watching just to see how the parents die. They are so obnoxious. The stupid, doormat wife just repeats everything the husband says. Neither of them ever believe their kids. The whole family has bizarre trust issues. The dad needs medication because he is quite possibly one of the most paranoid, uptight father character I've ever seen (the only one worse is the neighbor, closeted, military dad in American Beauty).

I really hope their deaths are bloody but I'm sure I'm going to be disappointed.

did anyone get the idea when they see the mother and how she acted around them its like she sounded like a bratty girl who is pouting cause she did not get the pony for her birthday

reply

Yes. She was so childish and weak. I just don't get what sort of mother let's her husband have so much control and be such a *beep* with their kids. Teenagers are teenagers, if you treat them like criminals they will act like them. A little bit of understanding would have gone a long way in that family and then they wouldn't have had to move in the that hell house.

I'm in the same position - just waiting and hoping for the parents to die (but not before they have that minor little "oh crap we should have paid attention" moment).

These people are like parents as imagined by a 15-year-old. Irrational, distrustful, bored and annoyed by their children, stubborn, actually stupid... just impossible to believe.

The only character with any redeeming qualities is the video-obsessed kid. I imagine that the screenwriter identified the most with that character. The maturity of the writing fits about that age level, so it makes sense.
