There's only 1 movie that should be called UFO..and that's G. Andersons!

The makers of this film should call it something else.

I accept that if you think of U.F.O. it immediately calls to mind the brilliant Gerry Anderson series from the 70s.

However, that said, there are many films out there which have the same or very similar titles. So your protest about any confusion damaging the Anderson franchise may not be founded.

The original 70s series was ground breaking for stepping away from Supermarionation and mixing model action with live acting. It filled a void left by Star Trek when that franchise was closed after three seasons. It treated the children (and adults alike) to a science fiction story with the threat of alien invasion and futuristic space battles, long before Star Wars appeared.

I'm very interested to see what Gerry Anderson does with the reworked up to date version of U.F.O. and I hope he can get the project off the ground, but he might want to steer clear of the old format (base under TV studios) which seemed a bit unrealistic at best.

I see no reason why any other film should not be named 'UFO', if it deals with Unidentified Flying Objects. We don't know as yet if this is the same alien invasion genre. For all we know it could be an updated version of Close Encounters, Fire In the Sky, or even Communion.

The cast list might suggest that it was a big production, but it appears that their budget was tiny at $2.5m. So special effects may be minimal. Mind you, 'Monsters' was made using lap top effects for $500,000 and was very well received. The cast maybe accepting a percentage of gross instead of their usual fee.

I like Science Fiction films. They tease because we can never guess what might happen next. Ever since War Of The Worlds and The Day The Earth Stood Still, UFO and alien invasion Sci-Fi has provided an entertaining story. Let's hope that this one is equally good. I'm open minded to whatever Dominic Burns can produce.

I'm equally hoping that Gerry Anderson can get his reworking of U.F.O. off the ground. I'm sure there's room for both films.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what they can do with an updated version of SHADO.

It's been in development hell for quite a while though.

I came in here thinking they had recast Joshua Jackson for the role. But this is another film, right ?
