Yeah... I was left with the feeling this movie went through twenty rewrites or so and the editing department threw darts to determine what should stick and what not, hence the endless parade of one take characters and seemingly unnecessary focus on others such as Jennifer and Cute Officer Guy (what was even the point of all those building relationship scenes???).
I definitely can see why people are puzzled about Jennifer's role in the whole thing because, frankly, I still don't get what exactly set her apart from the other victims. There were photos of her murder's scene but the identity of the killer remained unknown, so she couldn't have been killed at Annie and Nicole's house, right?. But then, why was her ghost trapped there? And why was she so adamant about protecting/getting Annie to find out the truth, when all their own mother's ghost did was protect her "secret", messing with the lights and sh!t (I am still pondering whether that secret was Judas's whereabouts or something a little creepier regarding the true identity of girl's "missing" father, myself)?
It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that they intended for Annie to be Jennifer's daughter at one point or another (have Judas kidnapped her while still pregnant and killed her after birth, with Judy taking in her friend's daughter - that would explain her ghost being attached to the house and her influence on Annie), and then drop that plotline midway to production. The seance's scene very clearly states she's not any of the girl's mother in the final cut, however.
