Creepy 1970's House Interiors

The set design the director used for the inside of this house really added to the creepy feel of the movie. On the dvd the director explained how he wanted a 70's look for the kitchen, living room, wall paper etc. That narrow hallway leading to the kitchen was very unsettling because you can't tell if somebody is waiting to jump out at you. It reminded me of the kitchen scenes in The Sixth Sense which also used the old house/apartment setting. The director said they found an old empty house and rebuilt the inside for the movie.

...also I couldn't help and think of the classic 1974 TV Movie "Bad Ronald" that also featured a guy living in the walls.

Anyone who puts wallpaper like that in their house is basically inviting evil into it.

Maybe the original pact was between the mother and a demonic interior decorator.

Now THAT'S the kind of movie I expect to see Casper van Dien in.

Love the creepy 70s look...and I actually have a diamond shaped mirror in my kitchen, exactly like the four at the end of the hallway in the movie...Noticed it when Anna was carrying the kid out of the house...I died laughing when I saw it. :P

While watching it i remembered what I just heard from the director of "The Conjuring" about how challenging it is to make modern horror so usually we see movies that take place in the past. I thought it was interesting that they made it modern with laptops and smartphones, but still you had to have an old "creepy" house. You expected to be scared silly a few times involving those corridors, but as a DIYer it definitely needs to be opened up!

Really enjoyed this disturbing film. A lot better than most horror offerings today.

One odd thing - surely one knows the configuration of a house you live in day by day? You'd know there's a walled off room/area surely?
