What happened to the SWAT team?

Three armed troopers boarded the ship in Chicago and never re-appeared. Unless I dozed off (highly likely) there was no explanation.

Just now getting around to watching this on the DVR. From what I could see, they never actually went on board the ship. It looks like they were standing right outside the hull when that energy field spiked and it disintegrated them like it did the guy at the airfield and the people standing at the base of the building in Chicago.

See to me that was very confusing. I thought all those you mentioned got zapped into the ship like the country bumpkin deputy did. I kept waiting for them to reappear but then slowly started to think maybe they did get disintigrated. That was very poorly conveyed.

That's what I thought was the movie's weakness: nonsensical things just happened with no explanation. For example, the young sheriff kid touched the ship and it transported him inside but anyone else touching it just plain disappeared forever or got disintegrated or who knows what.

Also in the original, the experimental equipment aboard the Eldridge was still powered on and thus the reason the experiment was going haywire. In the remake, they never explained if the Eldridge was still powering the experiment, they just said that if the navy dude got back on the ship then it would return to it's own time and the world would not be destroyed, implying that everything was going wrong simply because Bill the navy guy left the ship. Or something.

It's just sad that the writers and director started with such a highly entertaining movie, and rather than build on what made it so good in the first place, they created a giant turd of a film that made no sense and was filled with douchey characters that I wanted to punch in the face.

Just my two cents ;)

as far as i could tell, if you touched the glowing ship, you got sucked inside. if you were standing nearby when it jumped, you got blown up. so, the first SWAT team member who had the cutting torch hose, but no gas tanks, and was preparing to cut for, presumably days, to breech the hull because he could not figure out how to go find a ladder or forgot to pack a grappling hook to board the vessel, or C4 to breech the hull, got sucked into the ship and the other two SWAT team members got blown up. I assume there was not enough money in the budget to show them saving the SWAT guy with the torch at the end of the movie.
