If you hate this movie...

You're blessed to not have ever felt self-destructive.

Or indeed felt the need to generalise.

My personal reaction to your comment is that it is simply not relevant to whether one likes or dislikes this film. Anyone can be addicted and the nature of addiction is mainly self-destructive and does not require one to like or admire this film, which I personally found lacking and shallow.

seems like the people who gamble think this sucks the most

reply

llll2000 you would be wrong. I gambled quite a bit in my life and I understand the mindset that the main character was in during this movie. There are times where you say **** it and just let it ride. Your life is **** in other ways and you say **** it. This is what happened to the main character in this movie. Also people thinking that this movie sucked are clueless. Go watch Freddy Got Fingered and you will see real garbage.

Freddy got Fingered sucked... but that doesn't make this movie any better.

probably the most accurate comment I've ever seen on IMDB, your spot on.

You only relate to this film is that is so. Reminds me of speech at the end of the big kahuna about character, you only obtain it once you realised your mistakes in life

I've felt self-destructive... but there are movies that convey that feeling really well, and help you get inside the skin of their character... and there are movies where you just watch, passively. This was the latter.

You're missing the point of the movie if that's what you're taking away from it. The movie showed growth of a character. John Goodman's speech represented the general premise. You have to take responsibility for your actions at some point and by doing so control your impulses.
