If you were looking for a summary with spoilers...the sniper is a locksmith who built the piano for the original owner. (Elijah Wood's dead mentor) In order to unlock the piano and receive a key to some huge fortune, someone needs to play a certain piece of music flawlessly. Unfortunately only Elijah and his dead mentor are capable of this, so the sniper hatched a plan to take place at Elijah Wood's big comeback performance. He tells him that he will kill him and/or his wife if there is even one incorrect note. He's known for choking which is why he originally retired from concerts, but Elijah purposely plays the end of the piece wrong and him and Cusack have a showdown up in the rafters. Elijah gets knocked off and onto the piano. At the very end when the police are there and he's sitting in the ambulance with his wife, he decides to go back and play the piece again on the broken piano. He walks away thinking nothing happened but then he hears a key drop out and the movie ends.

The plot sounded good in theory but trust me you're not missing anything by not watching it.
