Answer me this...(spoiler alert)

Ok, admittedly, I may not have been paying enough attention, as it wasn't long before the movie began to wear on me, but, I was under the impression the piece had to be played flawlessly from start to finish in order for the key to be released. When he flubbed the ending during the concert, how was he able to release the key at the end by simply playing the last four notes correctly? Wouldn't he have had to have played the entire piece again to achieve this? Did I miss something?

Also, if I wanted someone to play an impossible piece of music, and needed him to do it flawlessly, and KNEW this guy had anxiety issues, I probably would have kept the screaming into the earpiece at a minimum. You know, for concentration's sake, if nothing else. Especially since he was already challenged with the added pressure of his wife getting a bullet to the head. Just saying...

As to your first comment, it was the last 4 bars...for your second one, yeah I suppose so but how else will you let him know you mean business?

If it was only the last 4 bars, why did Cusack tell him he had to play it flawlessly throughout? Once he screwed up, the lock mechanics should have reset. Plus, if it was just 4 bars, why did he need Elijah in the first place? Anyone could get 4 bars right. The whole security was set up to only be opened by a genius like the composer.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering it wrong, but I thought the entire song did have to be played flawlessly, and not just the last four bars. I think the last four bars were just supposed to be the most difficult part of the piece. And then at the end of the film, I thought Elijah did play the WHOLE song (but at a much faster pace), which then allowed the key to drop out.

Welcome to Fright Night....for real.

Anyone could get 4 bars right. Of any piece, at the intended tempo? Do you play an instrument of any sort?
