Is it really so bad?

Maniac was good which led me to this n I love Wilfred.

same here, big Wilfred fans & really liked Maniac (nice n creepy /excellent gore effects).
Thought it was decent, they did a nice job of making the hands in the movie look like they belong to Elijah Wood haha. Really liked the ending

No. It's actually one of the best movies of the year. It has a low rating because the people that are always whining about "Hollywood" and their lack of creativity, spend all of their money on "Hollywood'" lack of creativity, and all of their free time bashing anything that strays the list little bit from the "Hollywood" norm.

Then why does Enemy have a 7?

reply

Maybe Jake has a bigger fanbase? The ratings on IMDB are so arbitrary that, good or bad, they have no meaning. I've seen movies with a 3/10 rating that were badass, and movies with an 8/10 rating that were damn near unwatchable.

Care to share with me these badass 3/10 movies? I'm not after a huge list just a few examples.

Like what?

Yes, it really was sobad

No, it's not bad! It's actually very decent thriller. I gave it 7/10 rating. I thought that it's bad when I saw the ratings but I decided to watch it anyway, and I enjoyed.

It WAS SO BAD!! No real character development, no back story...I never cared if Tom or Emma got shot. As a matter of fact, it would have at least added some action to the movie. And John Cusack, who I love, looked like he was the same character he usually plays...a gorgeous killer, all in black. It was like watching "Grosse Point Blank: The Musical" but without the high body count.
Boring.

I found it very entertaining, very tense and i enjoyed the direction very much. You feel for the main character (not so much for the bad guy) and the whole movie keeps a very good pace. I am no critique but i am a 30 year old person who has watched a huge amount of movies and still liked it. Don't overthink the movie or you are missing the point. It's not the Cannes film festival.

It was not a bad movie. It just wasn't that good either. A lot of the events in this movie that took place came right out of the movie Phone Booth (2002), albeit most were necessary for the flow of the movie.

The way the director handled the suspense and Elijah Wood's performance saved the movie from being bad.

For the people saying this movie was creative, again, look to Phone Booth (2002). Pretty close to the same events in a different setting.

reply

Only Phone Booth was suspenseful and better overall, maybe less visually creative.
Grand Piano had no character. It was an indifferent movie. The only reason it was made was the music and the visual representation of the pianist's finger coordination with the music.
Ashley and Wayne were dreadful characters. Most of the screenplay not involving around Wood and Cusack was terribly poor.
