I don't like remakes, either--they're almost always never better than the original.
But in this case, the original Flatliners was a piece of crap, so in this case, a remake can't be any worse.

if you looked at the end credit it tells you the name of both his characters, so he is reprising it.
shareI'm looking at IMDb, and it's listed as a different character for each movie. And I just saw the movie a few hours ago. Keifer's character has no connection to what happened in the previous movie.
