If the girls were couple of guys, and the victims were racists....

I'm wondering about all the hate for this movie.

Is it the violence?
Is it the rape?
Is it because the cops didn't CSI everything and catch them in the 1 hour limit?
Is it the directing style?
Is it Danielle Panabaker's stoic act?

reply

I haven't watched it (and never will) but I'm pretty sure it's because it's some sort of psychopathic feminist fantasy. Imagine if it was a movie about a couple of guys who were wronged by women and then proceeded to go on a sexist, murderous, sadist rampage against the entire gender. It wouldn't exactly have gotten as generous reviews, now would it?

The_Z, you nailed it, my friend. That is the total truth.

How did he "nail it" when he completely failed to address the op's question(s)? And if he hasn't seen the movie, as he claims, why would anyone bother listening to him?

You nailed it

reply

HE DID nail it. This movie had no appealing qualti4es. Just because it fooled some idiots like you into thinking it had some sort of message, it was nothing more than two bitches going on a murder spree against totally innocent men. And it would NEVER be tolerated if it was two men murdering women.

reply

Never be tolerated? You just described the vast majority of torture porn movies on today's (and yesterday's) market. Chaos. Wolf Creek. Martyrs. Toolbox Murders. A Serbian Film. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I Spit on Your Grave. Snuff. Last House on the Left. Slumber Party Massacre. The terrified girl running screaming through the words before she gets attacked, sometimes raped and always chopped up is the oldest movie cliche in history; by contrast, how many movies show women doing the same to men?

reply

@golden muse_ Um, take a look at 90% of the horror films. It's almost ALWAYS the female who survives. The men get butchered and hacked to pieces. Yes, female characters do as well, but it's always the strong female character that survives. How many films have the man survive? VERY few.

These pc-obsessed times are getting old.

reply

Also, what should be mentioned is that the killer's behaviour in the "torture porn" movies are never portrayed as excusable.

reply

Not all of the men were totally innocent, just a little correction.

We don't really need movies about men going around killing women, because we have it in real life. Ted Bundy immediately comes to mind. Sure, he was alone, but he killed at least 30 women.

reply

The lecture I could give on this post.....aye. Lu would probably kill me before I'd finish correcting it.

What "generous" reviews? The movie got mostly bad reviews.

reply

If it had been men, why wouldn't it have gotten the same "generous reviews"? The biggest difference is that there have been many more movies like this with men doing the killing, so people don't think much of it. I mean, just think of all the movies about men killing prostitutes or some other group of women. I'm a man and don't understand why so many other men seem offended by this movie?

Besides, where are all these generous reviews you mention? I'm more surprised by all the hatred of this movie.

reply

As someone noted in another thread, I think they targeted the wrong audience. I also think that gender hatred is a sore subject for some, regardless of which gender is doing the hating.

reply

Agreed. You'll see a similar reaction on the "Hard Candy" board as well.

I'm about to watch it now. Even though it sounds as if it will be as one reviewer here described it an example of: "the ugly undercurrent of misogyny" that IMHO runs rampant in our movies, books, and TV. All but the line in quotations is mine. But misogyny is a BIG part of our society and the history of human kind. Here's some misogyny for you: I'm alone and want to see some T&A. Before you start, I know, I'm alone because I objectify women. However your scathing comments are welcome and I will hold civil discourse with any one who wishes to respond on the subject.

reply

The answer for misogny is NOT militant mysandry. You dont get rid of misogny by ramping up the mysandry.

Now, Mysandry is BECOMING exceptable in Hollywood now. Its ok to exploit men and show a flaccid penis, but if you exploit the female form and show vagina in a Hollywood movie prepare to get emails, phone calls, social media complaints from hardcore, militant feminists and their acolytes.

Dont think its true, ask Joss Whedon why he had to shut down his twitter account because a lockstep group of feminists didnt like how he portrayed Black Widow in the Avengers sequel

There are tons of movies were men murder women

That may be true but show me one movie where two men go around killing women just because they were wronged by them. Show me one movie where a man is raped by 4 women and he kills them all for revenge.

On the other hand, I have lost count of the number of "rape/revenge" movies I've seen over the decades where a woman is raped by a man (or group of men) and she exacts revenge on him/them.

I've also noticed on network TV that violence against male characters far exceeds violence against female characters. The recent season of Grimm for example. I think I recall only 3 instances of violence against female characters where the rest was against males.

And while I'm at it I'll mention the countless number of those "thrillers" of the 90's and early 2000's involving wronged women getting revenge against men. Shannon Tweed comes to mind because she starred in several of them.

Now all that being said this movie is nothing but pure misandric garbage. I was surprised towards the end when she sliced the man hating b!tch with the sword. She got exactly what she deserved IMO. I was surprised that it came from her new BFF and not a man.

I can understand a couple of the kills in this, especially the rapist. But Lulu's last victim was completely undeserving and I'm glad she got what she deserved in the end.
