That SURPRISE scene - SPOLIER ALERT!

I don't really want to mention it, but will try to discuss it. What did everyone think? I really enjoyed this film. Saw it last night at the SXSW Festival. Great crowd and Q & A. Anyway, there was a moment that was quite shocking. Not sure if anyone walked out. Do you know?

reply

The BBFC here in the UK will have a fun time with that scene. No walkouts here though, 7 months later.

reply

Agreed the BBFC here will have a lot of fun with it. Glad I saw it at the BFI Film Festival where that kinda of stuff is exempt. As they said in the Q+A they might black bar it. But even with that the BBFC will be strict, be interested to see how it gets cut.

reply

I think they'll probably make heavy cuts to it, despite probably wanting to cut the whole scene out. Hopefully it actually gets a distributor first though. The film was one of the best I've seen at the LFF so far, and it's a shame the Sunday screening wasn't sold out. While the trailer just came out yesterday, I've seen larger attendences for equally obscure films.

Yes a double was used.

Don't be so sure go check out the scene again espcially when she's getting it from behind.Look at drees breasts and then go check out lily labeau's breasts .Dree hemingway is close to be flat chested.lily has got a rack on her she's also got more meat on her bones than dree does.Go check out the video and see for yourself theres a possibility that drees lying.Even the pop shot looks suspicious the girl getting busted on's chest is the same size as drees.I'm not saying that she did all of the shots.I'm sure lily did some but it looks like dree might of did some as well. The director just either had her blurr out her face or have her look down with the hair in her face. Check it out for yourself tell me if you see the same thing .

Even though the scene was about shooting a porno... There was no actual sex going on no matter whose body was used for what shots.

It doesn't matter if Dree did close up shots, or if Lily did the wide shots where you can "see everything" going on.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's just make believe any way you slice it.

reply

"There was no actual sex going on no matter whose body was used for what shots. " Did you actually see the scene or the movie ?

A man should look for what is and not for what he thinks should be."

reply

Yes, I did.

There is no way Dree would perform the real sex acts her character is supposed to perform/receive. That part is make believe. Hence, the strategic closeups. If you believe otherwise, that's just wishful thinking. I know it's more exciting and erotic to think she was really having sex, but the scene is shot in such technical way you can see where the body double shots begin and end, and you know exactly where Dree's closeups are inserted as well.

All the other wide shots with Lily are out of focus. The only thing you can barely make out is fellatio, but everything else is shot in a way where it could have been fake(d) as well.

If Sean Baker has stated the sex scene was real then he meant with Lily, and not Dree which is what I think you are hoping is not true... But Dree is not that kind of actress e.g. Chloe Sevigny.

not true as if it was real then the movie would be rated x as anytime a movie has real sex it has to be rated x and this movie wasn't.

reply

The sex was obviously real. If you don't think so, then you saw an edited version. Here's a screen cap from the movie: (Warning, adults only!)

yeah, but it's not a real scene with the girl who played the main character who supposedly had sex in that scene. that's my main problem as well as the fact that she never showed any freaking nudity in this movie.

reply

The fact that a body double was used, doesn't change the fact that the sex is real. They don't rate movies based on whether it's the actual actress having sex, or someone else.

reply

how does this: yeah, but it's not a real scene with the girl who played the main character who supposedly had sex in that scene. that's my main problem as well as the fact that she never showed any freaking nudity in this movie. mean that they rate movies based on whether it's the actual actress having sex or someone else?

and by the way if it's real sex then how did it not get an X rating? if there is real sex in a movie it has to be rated X.

reply

You're going to have to start posting in coherent English so I can decipher it.

There are two separate issues - 1) Real sex, and 2) Body double.

It's real sex, regardless of whether a body double is used. Penetration is penetration. These days, a movie has to be focus on sex to get an X rating. There are plenty of movies out there that have real sex, and don't have an X rating. They're either NC-17, or not rated. This movie is not rated, according to its IMDB page.

And I posted the screen shot above. Are you actually trying to deny that's real sex?

And by the way, the actress is part of the famous Hemingway family. She's not going to allow herself to be screwed on film.

reply

fuc# you.

That's good. Keep to simple sentences.

Llily Labeau was one of the "POV performers" at the shooting of Jane's roommate in her bedroom.
Dree's body double was Zoe Voss which has a similar body.
All the information is in the ending credits.

sorry about my english.

reply

You are right, it was Zoe Voss AND it is stated in the closing credits. She has a cameo role in the beginning. Hard to spot, though.

No spoiler alert needed. People don't come on movie message boards for any other reason than to discuss the movies in depth. Spoiler alerts are only needed if you're cross-referencing another film or TV show. Say, you're making a comparison to something similar, and you add a spoiler alert for how that ends. But if someone comes on to an imdb message board expecting not to have the ending spoiled? It will be spoiled just by reading the message board titles, and it would suit such an idiot right. If you want to know just enough to decide whether to see the movie, you go to Rotten Tomatoes.
