New Orleans Filming Locations

Does anyone know why so many movies are being filmed in New Orleans? If it just for tax purposes why don't other states like Texas, Mississippi, Florida, etc offer the same deals? I have noticed that in many of the movies it seems like most of the action takes place indoors or in nondescript locations which could be filmed anywhere. Some show the typical quick shot of Bourbon Street or the St Charles streetcar but that's it. Just wondering if anyone out there has some information on this matter.

Yes, it is because of Louisiana's new tax incentive for the Motion Picture industry. A huge government grant was offered several years ago to train crew (camera, lights, editing, directing, etc...) members and help them find jobs as interns on movies sets. After they interned, the good ones were invited back for real paying jobs.

Since this went over so well, and the tax incentive kicked in, AND because Louisiana offers SO many different locations for all types of movies, it has become the newest Hollywood with major studios in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and others being built around the larger cities.

Several films that were already scheduled to film in other states were canceled and switched to Louisiana because of the huge tax incentive.

Plus, every celebrity and Big City crew member who comes in from Los Angelos claim that Louisiana has the most gracious and loving people with a rich culture and AWESOME food. They come once and are ready to build a home here.

Already living in Louisiana are John Goodman, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, Delta Burke, and many others.

I thought the locations were a big plus for this little movie. Louisiana, New Orleans, they are DRENCHED in atmosphere. The culture, the architecture, the FOOD, the local color, is fascinating. To be walking the main square on a balmy night, with those tarot card readers scattered around doing their thing on small tables, makes you feel like you're on the set of an alluring, mysterious movie.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before but, while watching TLE2, I got reminded of the locations & feel of those creepy Lucio Fulci films from the 80s such as THE BEYOND and HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY (and the Argento/Romero combo movie TWO EVIL EYES).
I think it's time for me to revisit those films and make sure I got some po boy shrimp sandwiches & beer to go with it.
