Is anybody else disturbed by the misspelling for the trailer's synopsis?

"A documentary that explores the downloading revolution; the kids that created it, the bands and the businesses that were effected by it, and its impact on the world at large."

If you need help figuring out which word I'm talking about then you're an idiot. It may not seem like a big deal, but remember, people are actually paid to take care of mistakes like that.

reply

Well spotted, sir. The offending misuse of that verb has been corrected.

Wow, eggbertsmith. You lambaste me for placing too much importance on a typo and accuse me of self-importance. And you do so by writing a novel for a response. Ironic.

reply

I lambasted a turkey once.

I do not see an offending word up there. Neither does spellcheck.

rp69, You either need to get a better spellchecker or a better education.

reply

Oh, I see it now. It's the missing hyphen on "its". I'm reading this from across the room on my tv.

reply

No, it was "effected" instead of "affected". "its" is correct in this context.

(Just in case anyone else was confused. Took me a while to spot it too!)

reply

Wouldn't have found it. If I were writing that sentence, I would have spelled it the same way. Probably with a good portion of the average population.

Spell Check didn't pick it up because they're both proper words.

reply

I didn't notice it, though if I had written it, I'd have gotten it right. Thing is, I see more embarrassing mistakes all the time so I wouldn't rant about it on a message board like the OP did. If it really bothered me, I'd fix it.

reply

Spell checkers can miss these things because it's not a spelling mistake, it's a grammatical error. Affect is generally a verb and effect is generally a noun, although it's a little more complicated than that. Please don't justify poor language skills with 'probably a good portion of the average population', it makes you sound even worse - like those people who mix up 'then' and 'than' and say it doesn't matter.

reply

This isn't a spelling error. It's a grammatical error. And yeah it's amazing that it got through. Then again, the person doing the proofreading was probably some 23 year old who went to school in the "there are no right answers and wrong answers, just whatever makes you feel good" era. And this is the result.

reply

Yes, I spotted it as well; however, I didn't think it needed such a condescending thread. Goodness, the OP comes off as rather pompous and supercilious and in dire need of fresh air.
