pakistan is not the foil to US foreign policy

It all felt so hand-wringingly contrived, in the same way many american films feel so overtly jingoistic.
Pakistan is a terrible foil for US foreign policy and morality, given that it's chock full of corruption, state sanctioned murder, and general lunacy. Not really a compelling case for alternative morality.
