Cant understand the negativity

Our review from Venice http://wp.me/p2vR8U-oD - is the film simply too challenging for some people?

I've not seen it myself and from the trailer I'm not quite sure what it's message is meant to be. If it's an attempt to guilt-trip Westerners then quite frankly I'm not interested. I didn't ask to be part of any "system of oppression" I'm just a disabled white Brit trying to live my life and actually help people as best I can.

I don't mean any ill will towards anyone in the world, I just don't want people to try and make me feel that I owe more to Pakistan than the Westerners who've genuinely helped me in my life!

From everything I've read, including the book, the director is trying to show that fundamentalism comes in many forms. I'm really looking forward to the movie.

Yes, I didn't quite get it but obviously Changez connects the two when Faisal tries and fails to recruit him in Pakistan by using the same expression as Jim.

Yes, it might be too intelligent for the mainstream North American audience. I don't know why there's negativity either because the message of American corporate fundamentalism vs. Muslim fundamentalism isn't anything new. I took political science in university. This was pretty much required reading at the time (post 9/11):

Interesting though that Kiefer Sutherland chose this role when he role in "24" was so decidedly xenophobic and anti-muslim. Not to mention great propaganda for the "War on Terror". Maybe he felt this role would redeem him. He is after all a Canadian and his grandfather was the father of Canadian universal health care (Tommy Douglas).

The character, Jack Bauer, was anti terrorist, not anti Muslim. He fought anyone, regardless of religion or ethnicity, If they were trying to hurt innocent people. When he thought he was dying at the end of season 7, Jack turned to the Muslim imam to help him find peace. Not exactly anti Muslim, I'd say. That many of the terrorists were Muslim, was up to the writers, and the reality of our world. he also fought Chinese, Russian, Serbian and domestic terrorists. In season 8 Jack fought to save Hassan, who was a Muslim president. That being said, Kiefer isn't xenophobic or anti Muslim. He's a very liberal guy, like his grandfather, who likes to play interesting characters. Jack was interesting. John in Melancholia was interesting. His character in this movie was interesting. Nothing more, nothing less should be read into it in my mind. I really wish people could separate fiction from politics. 24 had many liberal fans, myself included, as well as conservative ones.

I thought it was good but not as good as I expected. It had a great premise and great characters but somehow it failed to fulfill its potential.
