have you even been searched in an airport?

the more "extreme" cases, well "extreme" in your terms; what was it like etc?

The worst that has ever happened to me was my luggage all messed up because there was a small (2cm) stone accidentally left in one of the pockets, and apparently thats a lethal weapon.

Lucky you. Recently I was searched at the Frankfurt Airport, for some reason something beeped as I went through the metal detector, it might have been my shoes that set it off, but I don't know. I got a pad down from a guy staff, I am guy and he, well, touched everywhere, including below the belly part. Ewww....

reply

America is definitely the strictest with this.. I've had my luggage swabbed for drugs and have been patted down there but nothing major... People definitely do profile though.. I've heard black relatives say they get patted down more than white people they know (or me)... I guess black and Asian men probably get the worst of it!

reply

they tried to search me in copenhagen airport. i asked the reason, they said "i fit a profile". "what profile?", they said they can't disclose. then i said i refuse to be searched and i will call my lawyer. they backed off. i was victorious, i walked like i was ten feet tall :)
yes i do have a lawyer. but, well, he is just a tax lawyer :D

Danmark does not have unconstitutional Patriot Act BS. In the US they can declare you an enemy combatant just if you look at them the wrong way.

I have, but not so... deep that they even have a look in my... a$$ (wtf!?!) Did they really do that without any evidence, just on grounds of nationality?

El-Al, which undoubtedly has the best security in the world, will bring in a group of female passengers and have them strip down to their underwear; I assume it's true also of the men.

I've had my bags searched any number of times, and I've been pulled aside at security. The security person used a wand on my hands for I guess bomb debris, I don't know - that has happened a couple of times. One time I went through security and was stopped. I was told I had "spots" (don't ask, I have no idea) in the back of my head and on my back. They passed that wand over them. What I don't understand is how it is that these so-called spots have never reappeared since I haven't been stopped for them since.

The Patriot Act is a scary thing. If the police don't like you -- and I actually had a friend who went through this - they can call you a terrorist and arrest. My friend was questioned by the police for something that was very remote from any security breach. She was a journalist and we don't know if she upset someone or not, we never figured it out. Anyway she insisted on an attorney and the cops demanded her computer. She refused to hand it over. They had no warrant. They told her if she didn't hand it over, they were going to come to see her in six months and "talk to" her about terrorism. That was the end of the whole matter, and if she hadn't been savvy (her sister worked for a public defender) - it's not clear what would have happened.

So that's the Patriot Act - available to anyone who doesn't like you.

reply

Actually that isn't the Patriot act. That is cops doing what cops are allowed to do, lie and intimidate you. Your friend did the right thing. Ask for an Attorney or invoke as they say and don't allow any searches without a warrant. But I have to be blunt this sounds like drug *beep* to me..

reply

The Patriot Act has to do with having people arrested for suspected terrorism, which any Tom Dick or Harry can accuse you of - which is what happened to my friend - when they couldn't get what they wanted, they said they would "talk to her about terrorism" - that part is most definitely Homeland Security. And no, this wasn't drugs. She wrote something a political fundraiser (obviously well connected) didn't like, and suddenly she was in the realm of Special Investigations. They gave her a hard time for a while but in the end, nothing happened.

i used to be searched prior to 9/11 every single time i traveled abroad , absent the digital penetration

reply

I have never been travelled by planes before except for one, inside the country. Live in Malaysia, so when the scanning scanned my bags and my mom's, it beeped and I instantly went mad to my mom saying that she brought unnecessary stuff, I was about 11 years old at that time. Suddenly, the guard said it was coming from my pencil box. -_- I brought a pair of scissors, lol, I was a bit embarassed. Hahaha..

I'm 18 now, 2017...I want to travel to America, Arab, UK, Australia, China, Japan, Ireland, Canada so badly! Waiting until I turn 20-22...
