That Stupid DIXIE CHICK!

Does anyone else think that what the girl from the Dixie Chicks did was pretty ridiculous in calling out Hobbs by name and proclaiming the innocence of the WM3?
Sure, he seems pretty guilty. I wouldn't be surprised if he was. But that's how they got into this whole mess in the first place. How is this any different than how people reacted when the WM3 was first arrested?

I think calling out a man by name and accusing him of child rape/murder is a pretty serious accusation. And as many cases have shown, there are times where even the person who seems 100% guilty is actually innocent. What if this man didn't do it? Is it okay to drag his name through the mud because you're a celebrity and you possess this stage that most people don't have to broadcast your opinions?

Even if it was an elaborate plan to get him to talk about the murders under oath and then back him into a corner, it was still wrong.

So...three people who are innocent were found guilty & sent to prison.Three children were murdered. The murder(s) walk free. The police messed everything up & nobody is held accountable for their actions. Is that all about right?

reply

Yep. It's called small-town justice or the good ol' boy network. It's a travesty. Hopefully, if we can keep the spotlight on this case for a while, something positive will come from all this.

reply

yes! Celebrities that watch a 3 hour documentary on HBO somehow become an expert in police investigation. Eddie Vedder, Natalie Maines and Johnny Depp just shut up already!!

reply

I don't know how much Johnny Depp was involved actually in supporting the West Memphis 3, but from what was shown in the documentary, he never actually says anything in their support other than that he knows what its like to be singled out for being different. He never even mentions their names.

I just want to scream: Stop talking Natalie!!!

That girl can't stop getting herself in trouble. She should've learned her lessons when she dissed Texas. Especially when you sing country music, you can't piss off your demographic!

Natalie, if you're reading this: speak to your publicist before you say things publicly.

I hate Natalie Maines AND her sh!tty music. She's got a big mouth but in this one instance her big mouth came in really handy.

what's wrong with dissing Texas??

reply

Um...there are lots of country music fans who will not take kindly to it. If your livelihood depends upon people liking you...Try not to piss them off.

I think you're not accounting for the possibility that she has more integrity than to compromise her beliefs to avoid a negative impact on her income.

This might be true of her, but during an interview with the the other two in the band (I think it might have been Barbra Walters, don't really remember) they were pissed.

reply

I thought it was tasteless until Hobbs lost the case and was ordered to pay restitution to her. That made me chuckle, I wonder if his payments are as low as Jerry Drivers restitution to the WMPD (He stole over 30K).

reply

Hobbs said he'll never pay them a dime.

It wouldn't be that hard to get the money out of him. Even if he says he won't pay, all they would have to do is get a judgement on him. Once that is in place, it's good for 10 years. From there they can put liens on his vehicles/home/business as well as put it on any banking accounts.

I was watching this while working on something else, so I don't know if I got every detail, but what eXactly did she say about him? I saw the bit where it said he was bringing about a defamation suit because he was claiming that she said that he was "guilty of killing the three boys"? Or something like that, and he wanted to sue her to restore his "good name". I saw the scene where she was speaking on the steps of a rally where they had all the postcards lined up, and she was asking people to go to MW3.com to donate money to the legal fund so they could keep up the defense and the eXpensive testing they were doing to try and free them. She did not say anything on camera (that I saw) that defamed him. Did she? It was only what he said she had said about him? I suppose if he said that "she was going to prove through DNA testing that he was the killer", then I guess she probably did say something to the effect.

Perhaps she got legal advice, and they told her that if she went ahead and said this, and he responded with a suit (like he did), that he would be forced to be deposed, whereas perhaps previously maybe he had refused to make a statement. He did not seem like the brightest bulb.

Terry Hobbs made me really mad. He and his family...they kept saying things like, that they would assume that the WM3 were guilty until the police/prosecutors told them anything different, ie, until the police figured out that he was the violent SOB who actually killed his step-son and his friends. That guy's story just did not add up. If he had really been defamed, I guess he could have come away with a good chunk of cash from NM, and you could call her a stupid idiot. I call her brave and I admire her for standing up for these innocent guys. It is a sad time in America when there is no justice for these three guys and the three dead boys because a judge and a prosecutor's office can't admit what a miscarriage of justice they made of this case.

macgirl, I googled this and from what I understand regarding the articles written about this was she made some allegations at a WM3 rally, on her band's website and on her myspace blog ...

The open letter she posted is on the last 2 pages of this:

I (very quickly) read through the links that you attached. It looked like the information that she posted on her myspace page, and also mentioned, was all information that was already available in public record. I do not see any statements where she actually accuses him of being the killer or lists him as the killer. This apparently was her response when accused of this. If any of the items she listed were false (such as that she made them up), then she would have definitely defamed him.

reply

macgirl, I agree. I can't remember what she said at a rally (or even if I read what she said). But all that other stuff (her myspace, etc) was all public information.

You have to realize too, that Terry "scumbag" Hobbs LOST his lawsuit against her and was ordered to pay HER restitution.

reply

Yep, that says a lot about that case. I remembered that he'd lost the lawsuit, but I'd forgotten the judge ordered him to pay her restitution.

Except in the last 20 years he didn't do it again, because he never done it in the first place.

Why don't you listen to your own post?

I swear the people who post on here are getting dumber by the day.

They proved one thing about the three accused and locked up young men. They MAY not have done it. Do you understand the difference. That's all you need to prove to be not locked up in jail. To prove that you MAY not have done it. And MAY not have done it means....you COULD HAVE DONE IT. Know the difference. No piece of evidence ever came forward to say 100% that they are innocent. That evidence was more circumstantial then what put them behind bars in the first place. An actual confession done multiple times. There was no revelation here. No confession by the real killer. They are not clear of this crime accept through the faulty court system.

You know this is a free country and people are entitled to free speech, even if they are hollywood celebrities. They don't need to be quiet just because you don't agree with them.

reply

However, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. And it's certainly doesn't mean we should applaud her behaviour. It is a free country after all, we are allowed to have opinions too. And I'm of the opinion that Natalie Maines is a first class idiot.

Sure. But that lawsuit from Hobbs did force him to give testimony under oath so many "uncomfortable" questions were asked and we get to see him answering questions and all that, which added to the case, anyway.

I'm not saying that that Dixie Chicks....chick was playing someone else's strategy, but..
