What if the kids tied each other up?

Not that this adds much to what happened, but the boys were scouts, right? It could have been one person under control and having each boy tie each other up (this would be consistent with having different styles of knots) and the killer tying up the last child.

Or am I missing some details that would not make this possible?

The original poster means that the kids were made to tie each other up, and the third was tied up by the killer.

You have to use common sense. Don't be like the cops in Wisconsin.
