Did anyone know the girls or mother in real life?

I read somewhere that their real names were Caroline and Catherine but I'm not sure. From what I've gathered the girls in the film were nothing like the girls in real life. In real life the girls were cold-blooded and greedy and wanted to kill their mother so they could spend her money on weed and partying. The film made them look more sympathetic. A journalist who was at the trial and followed them for months said that the girls laughed in court when the autopsy photos of their mother was presented.
