Will Not Watch This Movie Again
When I first saw this movie I was not aware that it was based on real events until the end credits roll and you get the update on the two sisters. Naturally you become curious to know what happened in real life, and how much of the movie reflects the truth.
One of the things that I hate about Hollywood and the movie industry in general is when the truth is not convenient for them they change it. The sad truth is that although these girls had a troubled home life, they went well beyond the bounds of normal sane behavior by viciously and maliciously killing their mother.
How in God's name a court of law could let these two girls off given the mountain of evidence and the callous way in which they offed their mother such a light ineffective sentence with anonymity is beyond me. It is a prime case in which the criminals are treated as precious individuals in need of second chances and rehabilitation while the victim is an after thought. The movie portrayed these girls as victims and to a lesser extent they are, but the truth about what they did and how evil it was should have been what the movie showed.
Before I researched the truth of the case the movie had me thinking that these were two girls who fell into the wrong behavior because their mother was a neglectful drunk who could not keep a job and had abusive boyfriends. Even though I was sympathetic to the girls when watching the movie, I could not shake a sense of outrage on the mother's behalf. She was just killed and no one seems to care.
Well in my on way I will care by never viewing this movie again. It turns a sick twisted demented murder into a hip, sexy, adventurous murder staring two edgy co- dependent sisters. Hollywood strikes again turning abhorrent behavior into celebrity. I hope the girl who has a child of her own will always wonder if her child will one day kill her as easily as she killed her own mother.
