It was reported in The Australian newspaper earlier this week that this film would play in a shorter version then the 125 minute version which played at the Sydney & Melbourne Film Festivals.
I went to both festivals but didn't bother to see the film as I knew it was opening soon. Now I regret it.
Anyway, I'll pass altogether now. If I can't see the 125 version I won't bother.
im not sure how you edit a movie to make it seem shorter; this isn't a case of 'too many notes' .. we watch what the director intended us to watch, not what we feel like. that being said; i sympathise with the idea of making it shorter; it felt very long. i feel like the reason it 'feels' so long is that the director tries to cram in too much into too little time and never fully goes into enough depth allowing us to accept and move with the ideas presented. ironic, because if he had, this would be a 4 hour movie. but in a sense, i'd prefer that, than a really long 2 hour movie. otherwise; fantastic acting (you would expect nothing less from the casting) and gondry's surrealism once again charms us.
