Just awful!

I can’t recall a more painful experience this year than the 2 hours I spent watching the french version of Michel Gondry ‘s Mood Indigo. The film is the epitome of trying too hard, and while I’m not exactly sure what it was trying, I know for sure that it did not succeed. In my review I bemoaned that ” the plot is secondary in favor of Gondry’s mania, which is like riding a jackhammer through a movie theater.” Now, months later, I can still somehow hear the ringing in my ears from that cinematic jackhammer. I guess I’ll just have to settle for Michel Gondry’s awesome music video for The White Stripes “Fell in Love with a Girl”.

Being prone to motion sickness and migraines, I couldn't watch this from a physical standpoint. Once I saw inanimate objects becoming animated ad nauseam for no purpose other than distraction, I had to let it go. I began to like the characters well enough to stay with it (but even that was with me really really trying to find a redeeming quality), but those never-ending effects were so imposing it took everything over.

Agreed. I never miss an Audrey Tautou movie but even her persuasive charms couldn't shield me from the staccato mania of a set designer's nightmare. There was no purpose and the love story was lost in the tornado.
