Character goof or a lie

They're showing it on HBO. Re watching it and just noticed something. As J'onn's nemesis tells him about the poison, he tells J'onn that he'll sweat out the poison in a few hours. Later when J'onn appears in the Hall of Doom, he tells Savage that J'onn should've been burning for weeks.
Was he lying to J'onn or Vandal about the poison's duration?
It's not like J'onn drank the whole glass of soda.
Personally, I prefer the comic version of this story. J'onn's solution was - unique. Flash was really messed up by the attack. Superman's issue made me think of Transformers (return of Optimus Prime).
