Probably a Question About Nothing But At The 2nd Party...

When the cute nerd was saying to the girl that she'd wanted to have sex with him and then she (shocked) is like "What?!"

And then he responded "Hmmm?" with that hilarious face,

What exactly were his friends laughing at? What was the effect of that supposed to be?

I was laughing hysterically, but mostly at how he said it and how his face looked, and then finally, because I couldn't stop laughing and had no idea what was so funny about it.

Can anyone explain what that was about? Sorry this probably is as obvious as I suspect.

Ha, yes, this is a pretty obvious one.

At the first party, the guy made it clear he wanted to have sex with her and her friend, who laughed it off. At the second party, in front of his friends, he said the opposite--that she wanted to have sex with him, and he was the one who said no. Everyone knows that he's joking. No deep subtext there.
