I downloaded it and watched it last night with my boyfriend. We did get a few frights and jumps but the ending made no sense. The blonde girl was pretty, kind and smart. Her mother had just died too so she was going through a hard time! I found her to be a nice, normal and very likable character so why did they make her kill herself? Also, if she had not killed herself by jumping out the window, would they have (all the smileys) killed her? It is just silly. Can anybody help me out with understanding it? Thanks :)
The movie lets you know about the very real psychos that reside on the /b/ 4chan board. The whole theme of the movie "doing it because you can" is why they targeted her the sad truth is they will target the vulnerable. There has been many an instance where someone has threatened to commit suicide on stream and these "people" (if you can call them that) will go to said stream and egg on and basically push the person into following through and yes I'm pretty sure they would have killed her if she had not jumped
hope this has helped you understand the movie but even I do not understand the real stuff I guess they really do just "do it for the lulz"
People that go to /b/ crying that they are going to kill themselves are: A: attention whores B: trolls
In either case i'd say, go right ahead, off yourself NAOW!
People that are serious about killing themselves just do it and don't go: "my life sucks, i want to quit it, what do /b/?" Everyone who goes to /b/ and creates a new thread knows what to expect. Grow up, give me a break.
xKeira, you do realize that people who ARE serious but somewhat unsure about killing themselves may go to an anonymous site to cry out for help...yes, partly for the attention, but that attention is probably needed because these people may not have anyone they can turn to in real life. They may be on the brink of making a decision, and some *beep* deciding to egg them all may make them decide to go ahead and end it.
You obviously have no idea what /b/ is. There are loads of suicide hotlines and websites, they should go there if they want help. /b/ is NOT the place to tell people you want to off yourself because they will give you pointers, simple.

Well you are definitely the last person someone should go to if they are feeling down.
I agree it's "just" a message board but that doesn't mean the person doesn't need help. Ignoring them sure - definitely do that. But calling them a troll and making fun of them? Why?

Are you a trained professional? You know this for sure? So if your sister, best friend or future kid publicly announced they wanted to die you would just write it off as being an attention whore and move on?

You obviously don't know what /b is. Maybe you went there once because of the movie or my post and now you know what it's all about? Try not to comment and judge stuff you know nothing about. Have a nice day and don't drink any bleach.

Would you like an award for being such an expert regarding a message board? Funny that you think you can tell people what to do. Grow up. You clearly need to.

The last twitches of someone that has no reply. You want a cookie? an award? You say i tell people what to do, yet you go "grow up!" Don't you feel kind of silly now? Sure you do, bye bye!
You guys a little wrong. At the end, the killer ends up being a real evil spirit. I say spirit because he killed Proxy. It was non of the psycho people. From my own understanding, yes they pushed people as you say, but with their actions they conjured up an evil spirit through their own acts. I say it's a spirit because Smiley came out of no where. Therefore it wasn't human, now a sequel could explain the death of Proxy.

That's a fairly definitive conclusion if one ignores the blatant dialogue just before that scene where it's mentioned that many of those masks have been placed in dorms across campus and across the country in others.

At the very end, when Proxy was killed, it showed a side view of the killer' face, showing that the mask was not a mask, but his actual face fully attached to the head, indicating that it was the real thing.
