German Shepherd dogs?

In the beginning of the movie, the enemy unleashed what appears to be a pack of German Shepherd dogs to attack the girl and her family. The second Manchu invasion of Korea took place in the 1600s. Now, from my understanding, these dogs weren't breed until the end the 1800 or earlier on to the twentieth century. Just kind of weird seeing such modern dogs in a film like this. Correct me if wrong.

Same thought occurred to me. Were there any breeds of dog in Korea at that time which resembled German Shepherds?

I'm pretty sure the german shepherds were convient/available trained dogs to get for the movie. No german shepherds obviously existed in Korea at that time. There is a breed of shaggy coated war dogs the Koreans had at the time. However, none of that breed exists today from what I was told by my uncle. Apparently, the Japanese killed them all during one of their invasions of Korea.

Jeez, killing a dog breed. The Japanese were truly very evil in their past. Can only be topped by eating babies.

The gear of the horses was mainly modern too.
